Using Tele-Therapy When We Can’t Meet in Person in My Office

Tele-therapy can be an excellent alternative when in-person therapy is difficult or impossible.

These days, online video applications have been made available, and I have been doing some sessions over the internet for a few years using this method. This allows a better connection than just the voice-only capabilities of a phone call.

But in 2020, we have had a whole new paradigm shift as the global pandemic of the Covid-19 virus has forced us all into our homes.

This means that me, as your therapist, and you as a client. Frankly, it is a godsend that we are able to communicate over video chat, and we can continue your sessions in this manner. I am currently working with individuals, couples and families using tele-therapy.

In the past, it seemed most reasonable to use tele-therapy with existing clients, since we already had a relationship and had met in my office.

However, as I’ve already learned in taking on new clients during this pandemic, a video chat can quickly and safely build up the trust and rapport that we need as client and therapist.

The video platform that I use is Doxy.me which provides a private, secure way of communicating face to face, even though we are not in the same room. Doxy.me is a HIIPA-compliant platform that keeps your information and our discussions safe and secure.

As doxy.me says on their site, “All data is [sic] encrypted, your sessions are anonymous, and none of your information is stored. We adhere to HIPAA, PIPEDA, and GDPR data privacy requirements.”

This is very important for tele-therapy.

As a mental health provider I am subject to HIPAA rules and regulations, as are my colleagues, medical and dental professionals, etc. In short, HIPAA-compliant tele-therapy is essential.

If you have any questions or concerns about using tele-therapy, please give me a call or send me an email.

I look forward to starting or continuing therapy with you using this video technique. And may God bless us and keep us safe during these difficult times!
