Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need therapy?

Everyone suffers from some sadness, worry, and stress in their lives.  However, sometimes those feelings become so overwhelming that they impact your life and reduce your ability to function at school, work or in your relationships.  If your feelings or symptoms are getting in the way of your ability to function, I recommend you seek help, either in the form of counseling or medical help.

How often do people need to go to therapy?

I usually recommend sessions once per week.  This is the best frequency to help you stay connected to the issues we are talking about and keep the dialogue and process going.  Sometimes, if someone is suffering from very severe symptoms, I will recommend therapy twice per week.  Alternatively, if symptoms are mild, less frequent sessions are also appropriate.

How long do people need to go to therapy?

Depending on the severity of the problem/situation and the ability of the individual or couple to work through their issues, it may take as little as 3 months.  However, for major internal change it can take longer than 1 -2 years.

Can you work with my schedule?

I am in the office on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  My earliest appointment is usually from 11am – 12pm, and my latest is usually from 7pm – 8pm.  If that works for you, give me a call and we can try to set something up!

What do I need to do to get ready for my appointment?

Please download the 3 documents on my Forms page; fill out the 1) Intake Form, read and sign the 2) Informed Consent Form, read and sign the 3) Consent Form for Telehealth and email them to me at least 2 days before your first session or bring with you for your first session.

Are you accepting new clients right now?

Please call me at (408) 486-9489, or email me to answer that question as it changes on a weekly and sometimes daily basis.

What does it cost to go to therapy?

My fee for therapy is $225 per 50 minute session.   I accept check, cash, credit card and debit card. If you have trouble affording my fee, it is possible that I may have a sliding fee slot available.

Do you accept Health Insurance?

I take payment at the time of service. I do not have a contract with any health insurance providers, but if you have a PPO (Preferred Physician option) Health Insurance plan. as an “out-of-network provider” I can give you an Insurance receipt at the end of each month for you to submit to your insurance provider. Often, health insurance will cover a portion of my fee after a deductible is met.  To determine your coverage, call the member services phone number on your health insurance card.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require sessions to be canceled 48 hours in advance to prevent you from being charged for a missed session.

Do you do online video sessions?

Generally I favor in-person sessions, especially at the beginning of our relationship. But I am set up to use a HIPPA-compliant video platform, if you have a webcam and you are unable to come to the office.

How do I set up an appointment?

Please call me with any questions or to set up an appointment.  My phone number is (408) 486-9489.  You can also email me.
